Diethyltoluamide 99% (Deet) is one of the extensively used insect repellent, which has the property to provide protection against fleas, leeches, mosquitoes, and bugs. It can be applied directly to skin or clothes which provide hours of protection from these harmful biting insects. This chemical is slightly yellow oily compound having the molecular mass of 191.27 g/mol and chemical formula C12H17NO. Diethyltoluamide 99% (Deet) can be formulated by converting m-toluic acid to acyl chloride and allowing it to react with diethylamine.
